HIRING PROCESS

Application

To start the process,  fill out the online application, the tab is located on the right hand side, near the top of the flyer (next to “Print Job Information”). The application period is clearly stated on all job postings and are strictly followed.

If do not have internet access, you may apply in person at the Personnel Division, 1625 Shaw Ave., Suite 103, Clovis, CA 93611.

Oral interviews

Once your application has been submitted, it will be reviewed.  If accepted, you will be contacted at one of the numbers you provided on the application and scheduled for an oral interview.  Interviews are typically held on a Tuesday’s and Thursday’s, and last approximately 30 mins.

The panel normally consists of 3 department members, usually in the field that you are applying for.  You will be asked a series of questions and be given a chance to let the board know something about you and your experience.

BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION

If selected to continue, you will be required to complete a personal history statement (PHS) or background packet.  For those not aware, this packet is involved and can take some time to fill out.  This is the first step of the Background Investigation.  The packet includes checks of employment, police, financial, education, and military records, and interviews with family members, neighbors, supervisors, co-workers, and friends.

Once turned in, you PHS will be reviewed and you will participate in a polygraph examination. The Polygraph Examination is conducted to confirm information obtained during the selection process. 

You will then be contacted by a Background Investigator who will interview you and investigate all information you have provided. Background Investigators do not make decisions about hiring, all decisions are made by the Fire Chief.

FINAL INTERVIEW

Candidates will then be interviewed by the Fire Chief who will make the final selection for hiring. From this step you will be given a conditional job offer which outlines starting pay, tentative start date, and the final hiring requirements.

Conditional OFFER EXAMS

If selected to continue, you will need to pass a psychological examination, medical evaluation and drug testing. You will also be scheduled for PPE and uniform fitting.
